Happy Sunday! So usually I’m putting out #SubscriptionBoxSunday posts, but because a lot of research goes into them I’ve decided to have some extra time in between. I want to keep posting at least twice a week, though, so I had to put on my thinking cap. So either on Saturday or Sunday when there isn’t a product/subscription review, I’m going to upload posts about myself. Vain, much?! Sure. 🙂 But if you’re reading my posts, you might as well learn about who is typing these wonderful words.
Let’s call it, #SelfieSaturday/Sunday.
The past few days my partner has been out of town, so I’ve been able to do a lot of uninterrupted work on my blog and “actual work” preparing for my upcoming school year and prepping my caseload. If you’ve read Who Am I? you know I work in a school. If you missed that, I’d say go back and read it so we can get all caught up.
All caught up? Perfect! Enough about me…let’s get into this week’s post (oh….wait….).
The Sunshine Blogger Award has been circulating and I was lucky enough to get nominated several weeks ago. Basically, bloggers nominate other bloggers for their content and positivity and ask them 11 questions. Then it gets passed on with a new set of questions. I answered my questions from the blogger who nominated me in this post, but I thought it would be fun to answer the questions that I asked the bloggers I nominated!
What is the weirdest food you have tried?
Hmm. I asked this, but this is a hard one for me to answer! I’m a picky-ish eater…so I’m not big on trying weird foods. I’m sure at some point when I was little I tried turtle or squirrel when my grandpa hunted it and my gram cooked it. Does that count?
What is one thing you have been surprised with (good or bad) since getting into blogging?
The community! I love that the whole blog community is there to support you and help build you up. I wish I would have known about this kept secret before, because I would have started blogging light years ago!
What is the worst experience traveling you have had?
Oy. That would have to be in Rome. It was my first time abroad and I caught a 48 hour stomach bug. I ended up throwing up in many places around Rome, including but not limited to, the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, and a bidet. I wrote a little about it in How I Spent 3 Days in Rome – Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Stomach Flu, Colosseum, & Trevi Fountain.
What is the best experience traveling you have had?
I like to think they are all my “best” experiences because I’ve never really had an awful time. I’d have to say my favorite moment was when I did a 17 hour layover in Iceland. I was by myself, it was the end of a 3.5 week trip, and it was the end of my first trip overseas. You can read about it in WHAT I’VE LEARNED: Starting to Travel. The feelings that I was experiencing were indescribable, but it is something I believe will always stay with me.
If you could be any bird, which bird would you be and why?
I’d have to choose between an ostrich and a flamingo. An ostrich because they’re fast MF-ers and nobody wants to mess with them. A flamingo because they kind of fascinate me. I admittedly didn’t know they flew until about 2 years ago.
What is your favorite topic to write about and why?
Well, I’m a travel blog, so I absolutely love writing about my travels. I feel like this is a platform I can share with that genuinely wants to hear about it and doesn’t think of it as “bragging.” I feel like in real life, that’s what happens a lot when it’s never the intention. I really just want to share my experiences in hopes that you will enjoy it, too!
If you could quit whatever is bringing in money right now and do anything and be compensated enough to live quite well, what would you do?
I would move somewhere with a lot of land and just care for rescue dogs and whatever other animals need loving. I have so much love to give to animals, I just can’t keep them all in my one bedroom apartment in Chicago!
What is your favorite mantra to live by?
I’m not sure if it’s a mantra, per se, but “if it’s meant to be, it will be.” I believe in fate and that there’s only so much in your control. Being me, I like to control every aspect that I can, which is hilarious that this is my mantra. But at some point, you have to let it go and leave it to the universe. The universe has a funny way of working, but it will always work out.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert? What is your favorite and least favorite trait of whichever you are?
So my personality type is actually ISFJ. This means that I’m an extroverted introvert. I really want to be around people and be social, but it takes a lot of energy out of me. AKA I’m an introvert that has well developed people skills. I don’t want to be introverted, but sometimes that the best way that I refuel. My favorite trait of ISFJ is that I value relationships and maintaining harmony within them. My least favorite trait is that my energy is expended in social situations. It’s exhausting!
When you were a kid, what did you want to do when you “grew up?”
I wanted to be a WalMart cashier. I loved scanning things, so that’s what I always told people I wanted to be.
You can only choose one food and one drink for the next year – what would it be?
Ugh, I know I asked this, but it was mean of me. I’m sorry. This is such a hard one. One drink would have to be La Croix, specifically passion fruit flavored. I’d say water, but sometimes that gets boring. I’d prefer red wine, but that would just make me a lush.
For food? Pizza. Absolutely pizza.
As I said when I answered my original questions from my Sunshine Blogger Award nomination, this has been fun! I love having to put thought into some questions and letting people learn more about me. Maybe that’s because I love learning about people, but it works! If this isn’t your cup of tea and you’re not digging the new #SelfieSeries, let me know! I’ll brainstorm new ideas. If you’re digging it and can’t wait for more, let me know that, too!
